iOS & Android
Discover and connect with millions of artists.
MTV Artists is the music discovery offering from Viacom; connecting fans with millions of artists they know and love — anytime, anywhere.
They brought us on to design and develop the consumer-facing mobile apps for iOS and Android.
The apps needed to service exclusive content as well as provide avenues for discovering new and upcoming trending artists.
Their existing web offering guided our UI and layout decisions, incorporating staggered grids, sectional cards and beautiful fullwidth imagery.
Music-tech from The Echo Nest, Gracenote and LyricFind were utilized to power new artist discovery. Enabling users to acoustically match any audio playing nearby, search using only song lyrics and browse related artists via genre, hometown and years active.
‘Following’ features were later added for fans to create a personalized artist feed. This can include music videos, interviews, concerts, photos and more being posted every hour. Making the app a one-stop destination for finding the latest from artists you know and love.
On launch, MTV Artists was quickly featured on the App Store and Google Play; even landing inside the Top 10 Free Music Apps for iPhone. A myriad of positive press followed soon after and monthly active users have been in the millions ever since.
Following this success, one of MTV's sister channels connected with us to create a country music version fully-catered to their audience and brand - CMT Artists.
Post-release, we have continued ongoing support and maintenance working with the team at Viacom.
Spotify streaming and direct-linking from artist profiles was recently integrated, with more new features coming later this year.
